Your Google Business Profile may be unclaimed
A Maps card can exist before anyone who runs the shop has signed in. Customers already see a name and a pin. You still cannot change a word of it.
Google builds Business Profiles from public information. The listing can show a name, an address, even a phone, while the person who pays the rent has never opened the manager tools. That is an unclaimed Google listing.
How to see this on a live listing
- On a computer or phone, search your business name and city in Google or Google Maps.
- Open the card that is your shop, not a nearby shop with a similar name.
- Look for a button that says Claim this business, or Own this business.
- If you do not see that button, try to edit hours, photos, or the website. If Google will not let you, the profile is not in an account your team controls.
If the card is already verified by someone else, you will not see Claim this business. You will need to request access from the current owner.
What to do
Claim the profile, then verify it. Google publishes the steps in Add or claim your Business Profile. You can start from Maps or from business.google.com/add.
After you verify, set hours, add photos, and attach the real website. Those three fields are the difference between a card that sits there and a card a customer can use.
If another account already owns it, follow Google's ownership request. Do not create a second listing for the same shop. A second card becomes a same-phone duplicate.
